I've been listening to podcasts in airports, on trains, in the back of a tuk-tuk in Southeast Asia, for years now. They're perfect for the road. But lately I've noticed something: a lot of my favorite audio-only shows are turning into video shows too. Turns out there's a reason for that, and it's happening in a big way this November.
Las Culturistas, the pop-culture podcast hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, is moving to Disney+ and Hulu starting November 18. New video episodes will drop weekly. iHeartMedia and Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Podcast Network made the announcement, and it's a bigger deal than it might sound at first.
This isn't just one show hopping platforms. It's part of a pattern. iHeartPodcasts has been steadily building a video lineup on Disney+ and Hulu, and Las Culturistas joins shows like Hey Jonas!, Pod Meets World, Fake Doctors, Real Friends, StraightioLab, and Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim. Even Desperately Devoted is getting its first video episodes starting November 2.
So why does this keep happening? Because people don't just want to hear their favorite hosts anymore, they want to watch them. I get it. There's something different about seeing two friends crack each other up in real time versus just hearing the laugh. The visual adds a layer you can't get from audio alone.
Here's the thing about this podcast, it's not really about entertainment news. Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang met through New York's comedy scene, and what they built since launching in March 2016 isn't an interview show. It's two friends riffing, disagreeing, and building bits together in real time. That friendship is the whole engine of the show.
They dig into why certain things become culturally meaningful, or embarrassing, or inexplicably beloved. Why does a particular trend stick? Why does a specific celebrity moment become iconic? That's the kind of question I find myself asking when I'm traveling too, why do certain places, foods, or customs become legendary while others get forgotten? Curiosity about culture isn't limited to Hollywood, it's everywhere once you start paying attention.
One of the show's signature bits is called "I Don't Think So, Honey," where a guest gets a short window to rant about something that drives them up the wall. It's silly, specific, and oddly satisfying to listen to.
And the guest list isn't small-time. Mariah Carey, Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Reese Witherspoon, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Nicole Kidman. That's a serious range of people willing to sit down and talk culture with two guys who clearly aren't afraid to disagree with each other on air.
The accolades back it up too. Podcast of the Year at the 2023 and 2025 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards, plus comedy wins from the GLAAD Media Awards and the Ambies. The show even spun off the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, which started as a live event in 2022 and by 2025 had made it to Bravo, with streaming on Peacock. Categories that are ridiculously specific, wrapped in satire with genuine affection underneath. That's a tricky balance to pull off, and they've apparently nailed it.
If you've never listened, now's an easy entry point. Starting November 18, you won't need headphones or an app, just open Disney+ or Hulu. And if you're already a fan, you'll get to actually see the chemistry you've only been imagining all this time.
I'll admit, I'm curious what changes when a podcast goes visual. Does the comedy hit different when you can see the reaction instead of just hearing it? Only one way to find out. Queue it up and watch for yourself.
