How to start a video podcast using your smartphone

(And 0 expensive equipment)

1️⃣ Step 1: Set up your smartphone

Place your smartphone horizontally on a loom cube or a ring light.

2️⃣ Step 2: Get the audio right

Use two Rode (Podcaster) mics for clean audio ($99 each).
Connect the mics to an interface using an XLR cord.
Plug the audio output into a receiver, and you’re good to go.

3️⃣ Step 3: Lighting
Position two lights on the sides.
I use Neewer lights—not “newer” as in I just bought them, Neewer as in the brand! :)

4️⃣ Step 4: Recording

Connect everything via USB-C to your laptop.
Open OBS or Vimeo to capture the audio.

5️⃣ Step 5: Post-production

All that’s left is syncing the video from your smartphone with the audio.
A quick edit, and boom!
You’ve just recorded a full video podcast with your smartphone.

It's that simple!

This setup has worked wonders for me, and it’ll work for you too—whether you're just starting out or want a simple way to produce high-quality video podcasts.
