Joe Rogan Still Rules Podcasting, But There's a New Face Worth Watching

I listen to podcasts everywhere. On long drives through the desert, waiting at airport gates, hiking trails where cell service somehow still works. They're the perfect companion for a life spent moving.

So when Edison Research dropped its latest Top 50 U.S. Podcasts list for Q3 2026, I had to dig in.

Same Names, Same Spots

"The Joe Rogan Experience" holds the top spot. Again. "Crime Junkie" sits at number two. "The Daily" rounds out the top three. That's the second quarter in a row these three have owned the podium.

Why does that matter? Because podcast audiences are notoriously fickle. People try new shows constantly. Holding the top three spots for six straight months means something's working.

"Call Her Daddy" comes in fourth, "SmartLess" fifth. Then things get interesting.

"New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce" moved up to sixth. "This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von" climbed to seventh. Meanwhile "Dateline NBC" slipped two spots to eighth.

The real story in the top 10? "Rotten Mango" jumped four positions to ninth, the biggest climb in that group. "The Breakfast Club" rounds things out at number 10, up one spot.

A Breakout Worth Noticing

Here's what caught my attention: "Dumb Blonde," hosted by Bunnie Xo, cracked the top 20 for the first time ever.

What pushed her there? In August, she posted an episode discussing her divorce from country artist Jelly Roll, then pulled it down. That kind of moment, posted then yanked, creates curiosity. People want to know what they missed.

It's a reminder that podcasting rewards authenticity, even messy authenticity. You can't fake real life.

Three other shows broke into the top 25: "The Pat McAfee Show," "Pardon My Take," and "Kill Tony." Each had something driving fresh attention. McAfee dropped a country-rock album. The "Pardon My Take" guys released a 10th-anniversary book. "Kill Tony" played Madison Square Garden.

Notice a pattern? These aren't just podcasts anymore. They're multimedia brands doing tours, albums, books. The smart ones figured out that a podcast is a starting point, not a destination.

Five New Faces

Five shows made their first appearance in the top 50 this quarter: "StarTalk Radio," "Club 520," "The Stephen A. Smith Show/Straight Shooter," "Hang Out with Sean Hannity," and "Smosh Reads Reddit Stories."

That's a wildly different mix. Science, culture, sports, politics, and internet comedy, all competing for the same listeners' ears.

Then there's "True Crime with Kendall Rae," which jumped 44 spots to land at number 55. Just outside the top 50, but that kind of climb tells you something's happening there too.

Why This Matters to You

I've spent almost nine years traveling full-time, and podcasts became one of my favorite ways to learn while I move. You don't need a classroom. You don't need to sit still. You just need good headphones and curiosity.

What strikes me about this list is how it rewards reach, not just downloads. Edison measures how many people actually listen weekly, not how many times something got clicked. That's a better measure of what people genuinely care about.

So what should you do with this? Simple. Pick one new name from this list you've never heard of. Maybe "StarTalk Radio" if science interests you. Maybe "Dumb Blonde" if you want unfiltered personal stories.

Try it on your next drive, walk, or flight. See what happens.

That's the whole philosophy behind adventure, isn't it? You don't know if something's worth your time until you actually experience it. Same goes for a podcast as it does for a country you've never visited.

What are you listening to these days? I'm always looking for my next discovery.
