Two Guys, One Idea, and a Podcast Empire That Keeps Growing

Here's a question worth asking: how does a podcast about a reality TV show turn into a whole network of shows about rugby league, true crime, and everything in between?

That's exactly what's happening with AIIMS Creator Hub, and it's a pretty good lesson in what happens when you stop trying to repeat a hit and start building a slate instead.

AIIMS Creator Hub is the company behind MAFS Funny, a podcast that launched in January 2025 and has already racked up more than 5.6 million downloads. It's hosted by co-founder Joshua Fox and built a loyal audience among Married At First Sight fans. That's the kind of number that could tempt most people to just keep making more of the same thing. Fox and his partner, Pedro Cuccovillo Vitola, did the opposite.

This month, with the Rugby League World Cup in full swing, AIIMS launched MAYDAY, a new sports podcast hosted by Wests Tigers NRL brothers Terrell and Taylan May. It's not just footy talk. The brothers get into culture, family, and life beyond the game, with guest interviews and fan interactions mixed in. It joins Unscripted with Josh Mansour, hosted by the former elite NRL player, which has also just moved over to Nova Podcasts. Since launching in May 2025, Unscripted has pulled in 724,000 downloads, more than three million YouTube views, 31 million Instagram views, and 12 million TikTok views. That's a lot of eyeballs for a podcast built around one guy's perspective on the game.

Then there's the true crime side of things. In July, AIIMS launched The Disappearance of Katie Walker, following the case of a British-born Sydney mother of two who went missing from Sydney's eastern suburbs on May 23. The podcast is tracking the case in real time, focused on Katie, what's known about her disappearance, and her family's search for answers. That's a very different lane from NRL banter and reality TV recaps, which seems to be exactly the point.

Fox put it simply: he and Cuccovillo Vitola wanted AIIMS to be a place where good talent and good ideas could turn into content people actually want to spend time with. Cuccovillo Vitola said they've been deliberate about building a diverse slate instead of trying to copy one format's success, focusing instead on podcasts that have a clear reason to exist and can build a real community.

I like that line. A clear reason to exist. How many businesses, or honestly how many of us, could use a gut check like that?

Fox and Cuccovillo Vitola are both former radio producers who decided to go out on their own rather than stay inside a traditional structure. That's a familiar story to anyone who's traded a predictable path for one they built themselves. Sometimes the interesting stuff doesn't happen inside the big machine. It happens when a couple of people with a good idea decide to try it outside the machine first, and let the machine come to them later.

Which is sort of what happened here. NOVA Entertainment has been partnered with AIIMS Creator Hub since March 2025, and that relationship is clearly paying off for both sides. Rachel Corbett, Network Director for Nova Podcasts, said AIIMS has built real momentum by pairing strong creative instincts with a sharp understanding of social media audience building. She pointed out that since the partnership began, Fox and Cuccovillo Vitola have kept expanding into new genres and formats with a considered approach rather than chasing one more hit.

So what does this mean if you're not in the podcast business? Maybe just this: success in one format doesn't obligate you to keep doing that one thing forever. Fox and Cuccovillo Vitola had a hit, and instead of milking it, they used it as a launching pad into sport, true crime, and whatever comes next.

All of AIIMS Creator Hub's shows are available through the Nova Player and anywhere else you get your podcasts. If you're curious, that's a pretty easy rabbit hole to fall into, whether it's rugby league, reality TV drama, or an unsolved disappearance that's still unfolding right now.
